FAT problem
Win98 se
2 ide drives, two partitions each.
I can't boot into windows, it goes to dos screen highlighting dos promt option.
I can't boot into safe mode either.
I booted off a floppy and tried to run scandisk.
Scandisk runs ok on all the partitions except for C:
Says it cant read the FAT.
I can read files on the c: from dos, so the drive is still there.
I tried booting from a norton 2001 cd and ran navdx.
It says boot record ok. I think its just checking it for virus.
Any ideas on how to fix the FAT?
I read this on another forum:
"If you are stuck in DOS... type - scandisk c: /autofix /nosave /nosummary - then hit the enter key. Then type fdisk /mbr <enter> to get FDISK to repair the Master Boot Record. "
Does that sound right or do I need some other software to repair the FAT?
