Hi everybody,

I've just upgraded an old computer from 98SE to XP SP3. Everything's fine except for the Audio. Tried out all the recommendations of the sticky and no luck. Hunted for drivers through the internet, downloaded some and no sound.

My PC is as follows (no brand, data from Everest):
Motherboard: FIC SD11 - No onboard sound
BIOS: AMI 62710
Processor: AMD Athlon 800 MHz
Soundcard: Creative SB PCI128 (Ensoniq ES5880) (as per Everest)
Soundcard details: The board is physically marked as CT-4810

In Hardware administrator the soundcard is shown as
"Creative AudioPCI (ES1371, ES1373)(WDM)"
The drivers are signed by Microsoft, dated 01/07/2001 and they're version 5.1.2535.0

No hardware problem with the speakers, they work OK with a laptop I have.

I've also tried to update the driver through windows (properties/driver/update), it gets connected to the internet, tries to copy some files but after that, it says "Error in the installation of the device - Access denied".

With some other drivers that I've downloaded (EnsoniqAudioPCIES1371XPDriver.exe, SBPCI_WebDrvsV5_12_01.exe, SBAudioSetup_W2k.zip, soundlabs012.zip) the results were the same: no sound. Some of them made even the computer unable to start (had to correct going back to latest known configuration). I've even run DriverScan from www.soundcard-drivers.com, and it only reported that the driver was up to date.

I'd appreciate any help, since I'm starting to get lost with this issue.

Thanks in advance.
