Windows File Protection SP3
Hey guys,
I've had two people call me with this problem this morning. What is up with the "Windows File Protection", "a file has been replaced by unrecognized versions", "insert your Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 now".
Solution?

You get the Windows File Protection message when one of the protected system files has been corrupted or replaced with an a different version. This is Windows attempt to repair the problem.
So, there isn't any single cause for the message. Could be malware, drive issues, system crashes, etc. In any event, some investigation is called for.

I agree, so slipstream yourself an XPSP3 disk otherwise you will be in update hell.

Turned out to be false positive by CA
CA AV 2009 for a few days was turning false positives on 6 Windows files, placing them in quarantine. Solution was to restore these necessary files, and get the CA Updates that corrected the problem a few days later.
