Sound, video, game controller cannot be found at Device manager Win 98
As in my subject my pc laptop will not play back anything, I believe some thing ate the above mentioned controller, what do I do, reformat the hard and reinstall, or can I do a surgical one item inclusion into my Multimedia folder located in the Control Panel?

What kind of sound card do you have? And did it ever work?
You might try installing the drivers, or reseating the card in a different PCI slot (or ISA, if applicable).

I don't believe you can reseat a laptop sound card.
What should be done is in control panel, click on Add New hardware and see if windows picks it up.
