soundblaster question

i received a handmedown comp (pent133 (i clocked to 150 ),older abit MB, 1Meg vid card, SB card, 14modem, w95) and have been paging thru the device mgr profiles. i noticed that the unit is set to run SB 16 plug & play. i also noticed that it registers Creative SB32 PnP as present in the hardware (v1.0.12) but that it does not have an installed driver. does this mean that if i download & install the soundblaster drivers for SB32 PnP that i can run this off of the same card? would this improve my sound output? do i need to disable the SB16 to do this? im a rookie at this stuff and any tech help &/or info would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

BE VERY VERY CAREFUL!!!!
Back up your regisrty first. I have a P200 MMX with a SB AWE64 & a Matrox Mystique 4mb Video card. I upgraded my SB drivers, and then I loaded DirectX6.1 .... Now I have a corrupted registry.... If you start fooling with those drivers, go one step @ a time and backup often!!!!!

GOOD LUCK!!

I a system with an AWE32 in it and run Direct X 6.1 no problems with the latest drivers and so do friends who have AWE64 cards.

The corrupted registry could be to do with other drivers in the system as Creative's drivers tend to be VERY VERY good with Direct X regardless of versions.

Windows sometimes gets a little confused in the device manager due to upgrade installs. What you need is to get the correct driver for the card from Creative's site. You can ID the card by the CT**** number printed on it. Then go to http://support.soundblaster.com/specs/audio/

type in the number you found and Bingo!
