All sound cards squeal/dead on Win2k Pro machine
Hello
I have tried numerous ISA sound cards (all Optis or ESS) in a machine running Win2k with an AMD K6-2/450 on a DFI board with 128mb. I tried a CMI8730 sound card. They all either squeal like a stuck hog or remain silent. What did I miss when I put them in and installed the drivers? Do I have to kill the codecs?
Thanks
Ken

Question, really. Why are you using ISA? Move to PCI!!!! That may help, actually.

Addendum:
I tried an Excel (cheapie) PCI sound card based on CMI8730 chip but this also squealed. Would I do better with a Creative or is there another chipset that will work?
Thanks
Ken

Buy a good brand name PCI vid card. The prices are not that high that you should have to use cheap ones.
