Unhappy Help! No sound in dos games

I have a jetway 720 bf m/b with onboard audio in the form of ess solo-1 chip that is suppossed to have native dos compatability but i can't get it to work. None of my dos games have sound, they won't autodetect the card and i can't seem to even set it manually. I have no problems in win98.

I haven't used that exact board but is there a setup in the software cd that you have to run maybe? Do you have a set blaster or set sound statement in autoexec?
