[RESOLVED] Have you ever changed the monitor and got a performance increase from the PC?

OK. This is odd. I just swapped my NEC 17" monitor with a 15" Compaq monitor on my Compaq deskpro EN (it's my work PC - I would have built my own but I'm not allowed here). Windows 95 (yes we use 95b) detected the new monitor and the strangest thing happened. My PC has had a performance increase. I swear it's going faster.

Have any of you ever seen a PC run faster when putting a new monitor on it? I had never heard of this before, have you?

Relating to video, you'll see performance gain when one or both of the following is true:

1. You decrease the screen resolution (maybe you dropped from 1280x1024 to 1024x768, or from 1024x768 to 800x600.

2. You decrease the color depth (i.e., from 32-bit color to 16-bit color, or 16-bit color to 8-bit color.

Maybe your system switched color modes and you don't realize it. Just a thought...

No, it wasn't that. I replaced a failing monitor with a new one and I swear that my PC pepped up a bit (it's probably in my head).

I'm my OS was running the incorrect drivers for the other monitor (I think) and has the correct ones for this one. That's all I can think of, but I never did see this before and I was wondering if I'm nutz or has anyone seen it before.

If it was a client that said this to me i'd tell them "sure it did, I bet...".

What StevePorter said seems to make more sense, even though you say none of that has changed.

An incorrect monitor driver would only limit the capability of the monitor by means of resolution, colours.

Maybe you just like your new monitor so much, it feels like everythings much better now. I liked the way my computer performed once I upgraded from a 15" to a 21" monitor. That made me feel like everything was much better, clearer, faster! I think that comes with the sense of having something different and new to you!

I have recently change monitors as well my old ones refresh rate was maxed at 60 hz. The new one is maxed at 100hz refresh, looks and feels faster. Not to mention less eye strain.

I was going to say the overall refresh rate is soo much better and doesn't get wavy like some older monitors. Plus a bigger monitor seems better to...I am glad it worked good for you! =)
