[RESOLVED] Have I broken my V770?

While playing GTA the other day, the picture distorted quite seriously, so being the cautious type, I quite to Windows. Here I found that the desktop had changed with the fonts near the edge of the screen becoming more compressed horizontally. A restart didn't solve it. All games that involve horizontal motion now look like they are curving round.
The card is a Diamond V770 Ultra with more than one fan cooling it. It was running on beta 6.67 detonator drivers at 160MHz core and 190MHz memory. I had previously not experienced problems on these settings. The drivers have been changed back to official releases. Monitor is a Hansol 710D 17" (brand new).
Do these symptoms suggest a fried graphics card (there's no physical damage)? Is there some way that I can fix the card, software wise, without buying a new one?

If I were you, I'd first try the monitor on another computer. Assuming that it works correctly, you've fried your card. But look at the bright side, you now have the excuse to get that Hercules 3D Prophet II Ultra that you've always wanted. OK, OK, so I've really wanted it...but you could want it, too...

The card must be going to die.
I've seen the same thing many times and I could say it's common on Diamond graphics cards! They use to die the same way.
Before buying a new one, do what Steve said.
Check it on a new monitor and if the problem persists, see if the warranty covers it.
If not, it's time to get a new one I'm afraid.

Thanks for the advise. I'll see what I can get my hands on to test it. My local (ish) computer shop suggested it might be the monitor which needed resetting, but that didn't work. Making the monitor run at 60Hz refresh seems to fix things, but then it screws up my head with the flickering....I dunno.
Unfortunately the fancy Geforce 2 card you're on about is something I may only dream about in the UK....@£300-£400 I dont think so!!!
I'll try and fix my old(est) PC and see if I can get the monitor working, then I'll get back to you guys.

Right, I tried it with the 2Mb Trident graphics card from my first PC, and the same thing happened, suggesting a busted monitor...what do you think?

I'm gonna test the monitor on a mate's PC and see what happens. If it happens again, I'll demand a replacement from the dealer mid-week. The frickin' thing is only 5-6 months old!!!!!

Oh, it'll be a lot more on the Isles. We're seeing prices of $300US here in the colonies.

Yeah, make sure you test the monitor on a completely different system. If the sucker's bad, demand a replacement...
