[RESOLVED] ATI all-in-wonder problem

Video card problem!

I have an ATI ALL-IN-WONDER 128 AGP 32MB (RAGE CHIPSET) video card and an ASUS P3B-F(440BX chipset) motherboard.

I experienced the following problem: after installing Windows 98 SE , I install the required motherboard drivers and the video card driver and I reboot my system and that is it.The system hangs and all I can see is black screen and if I am lucky enough my arrow(mouse), no start menu or anything...I tried this many times you know formatting, windows installation and the drivers over and over again I bumped into the same problem.I updated my motherboard bios many times and right now I have the latest bios update installed and still have the same problem ,no difference I even used intel's own chipset utility for the motherboard ...no luck .I have to let you know that this video card was designed (specifically) to work under Win98 .I have tried both win98's , you know 1st., 2nd edition but no luck.Although it did work with Win95 fine ,but who wants to stick with 95 ...
Right know I am using Windows 2000 which I love and everything works great but my life is still limited when it comes to playing games .Very few games support Win2K .
I would like mention a few words about ATI's tech support , they were speechless, they could not even give me a clue what could be the matter with my PC.
I would like to ask you to give me some ideas or advice what to do in this situation!Please!

Try donwloading any of the updated drivers for the AIW card from the ATI site. There are some issues with the Rage 128 chipset drivers and Windows 2000 and ATI know about them. It is very strange though that you are having problems under win98 though!! Try a fresh install and don't install the Motherboard drivers as Win98 does not need them for the BX chipset. Also ensure that in the BIOS, 'Assign IRQ for VGA' is enabled.

I have an ATI All-in-Wonder running with Windows 2000 - Hey, I didn't buy it; it was one of those trade things. It was a bit of an adventure getting everything to work properly, but work it does and reasonably well for the most part, too, I might add. However, if you are planning to use the card for its DVD capabilities, don't bother trying it with W2K - the performance is truly pathetic.

DVD plays great on mine. (1GHz intel, 512Mb RAM)

Today ,I did a fresh install of win98 and installed directx 8 along with the newest Ati all-in-wonder driver.I rebooted the sucker and bumped into the the same problem(black screen)...

It wasn't really worth doing this installation but I thought a drop a line just to thank all of your help and advice.

I don't know if you've given up but I should have told you that in order to install the updated ATI drivers properly, you should have the generic PCI VGA driver first. The default driver in W2K will interfere with the upgrade otherwise. Sorry I missed this info before...

This may be going the wrong way but any chance you'd do better with an older Driver? The latest-N-greatest isn't always the deal. Here's a site with several ATI drivers and if all else fails the MFR's of your MB may have one that will work for you. http://www.rageunderground.com/
BTW, I too tried to contact ATI, went the Email route (they never answered) and tried to call (bet it was more of a local call for you).......NM, they didn't answer 8\
