    Unhappy annoying rectangle remnants

ok.. i've searched all over the place... and i can't figure out what is causing my mouse to leave remnants on the screen whenever i open up an application or something. for instance i'll open up cooledit2000 and load a wav file and there will be a little rectangle of my desktop that surrounds my mouse pointer on top of the waveform. the remnant stays there even if i move my mouse. if i minimize and restore, the remnant goes away.

it's the most annoying thing in the world (at least at the moment). :-)

i have win98, nivdia riva tnt, detonator 28.32, sound blaster live 5.1, amd k6-2 550.

    any ideas?

    thanks.

Okay, well first, have you tried updating the video card drivers? I've had similar problems where updating the drivers would fix the problem. Also, try checking for viruses. Good Luck

Todo detonator 28.32 ARE the latest drivers!

Strangely enough, go back a few versions of the vid card drivers, start with the ones supplied with the original cd.

ok.. well i don't have an original cd cause i picked up the card off someone who was upgrading to a geforce. i used to have an old ati rage. i can download a set of old detonators. however, i did notice a slight increase in speed after i did 28.32... i think i had 23.x previously. so, do i go down to a slower driver and not have boxes left over on the screen... or keep what i've got? decisions... :-)

i've heard about conflicts between sound blasters and geforces... would a riva tnt cause a conflict? i think my motherboard has a via chipset too... has anyone heard of any conflicts between this hardware?

    thanks.
