It might be ....
Heat issue.
power issue..
a small hardware incompatibility.
a different setting in the bios.
Anything at this point.

Are you using the given drivers, or the Nvidia Detonators?
Try the latest Detonators from www.nvidia.com.
Could'nt hurt.

Maybe a conflict between the ATI and the nVidia?
Also, try updating the BIOS and installing DirectX 8.1.

GF4 MX440 is not the fastest card but is relatively fast...save some trouble and run it at AGP 2x until maybe a new BIOS flash or a new set of drivers comes along.

BC,
sounds like a BIOS/chipset issue. What chipset does your ASUS board use. The last few of my builds with ATI radeon cards and via Chipsets all suffered the same fate. XP would lock up at the welcome screen if AGP4X was enabled. I set them to AGP2X and all was fine. The performance difference between 2X and 4X is minor, so I wouldn't worry about too much. But keep on the look out for updated BIOS and check the newsgroups occasionally http://groups.google.com for any extra info regarding quick fixes to the problem
