GA-586 ATE: problems on IDE 2nd channel

PROBLEM DESCRIPTON:

Trying to install a second HD as a master on IDE channel 2 causes the system to hang up immediately.
The LEDs of the HD are on, but there is no video signal and the monitor goes in standby mode.
The same happens if I put the CD ROM as master on IDE channel 2.
Jumper settings are ok and contacts are firm.
Where is the problem ?

HD Quantum Fireball 1 GB (master on IDE channel 1)
cd rom Mitsumi FX-400 (slave on IDE channel 1)
Creative Soundblaster SB 16 ISA
mouse Logitech Pilot PS/2
monitor Philips 15A
os Windows NT 3.51 & Windows 95 2.0 (dual boot option)

2nd HD Quantum Bigfoot 1.2 GB (the one I'm trying to install)

have you solved your problem by now?
if not have you check .. as follows..
control panel > systems> device manager>hard disk controllers> do you see 2 controllers there. 1 intel master controller 2 primary and 3 secondary.
i have the same board. no problem with my controllers
although i dont have the manual. i am looking for a manual to tell me more about this board since i have two. and is set up. and is waiting for a nice cpu.

Try running your CD-rom or other hard drive as a slave,do not know if you can run two masters on one board.I am running one hard drive and a cd-rom as a slave and another hard drive slave on second IDE.
