If your drivers have not been certified, that just means that Microsoft has not certified them for compliance with their standards. This does not necessarily mean the drivers are not standards compliant, and if your computer is working fine, then LEAVE it that way! Always use the latest drivers from the manufacturer. If there are problems, then drop back to the certified drivers (if there are any, that is) Plus the certified drivers are almost always older than the latest drivers from the mfgr, so you may be missing out on features or performance if you stay with certified drivers.

If your hardware is really old, then you may never find a certified driver.

How many games aren't you able to play, or is this just an isolated problem with just one game. If you're only having problems with just 1 or 2 or 3 games, the game that you are trying to play may not be compatable with the version of DX you're using. See if there are patches for the game(s) you are having problems playing. If there aren't any updates for the games you're having problems playing, uninstall DX8 and reinstall DX7. Alot of the older games don't like to play using DX8. Hope this helps ya, if it don't, sorry. peace :p

My sister has the exact same two uncertified drivers. She's been told by Maxis that The Sims and its expansion packs Livin' Large and House Party are continually crashing because the drivers are uncertified. The PC manufacturer told her they can't help. She just bought the computer last year. I've downloaded a driver from Intel that seems to be circa '97; a certified Crystal audio driver is proving more elusive. Ugh. Any guidance for a non-techie would be appreciated.
