Problem printing hi-res to Accuset 1000

When printing from various apps (mainly Corel) to Accuset 1000 imagesetter using Agfa drivers (Win 4.0 PS + PPD), I cannot use the higher resolutions. If I go beyond a certain res, fonts become distorted (elongated 100%).

The max res is tied to page size - ie 8x11" size works okay up to 2400dpi, but for 11x17" I have to drop to 1800dpi, which is too low for my line screen.

It seems to me this may be a math issue like the old 16-bit drivers used to have. I can't find any drivers nowadays on the Agfa site for Accuset, and I wondered if a newer driver using the PostScript 4.1 or later driver might solve the problem.

It doesn't matter what program I print from, I cannot get a higher resolution than 1200dpi on our AGFA Accuset 1000 plus. I am running Windows XP pro. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The default Windows XP driver does not allow all options on the machine......NOT good. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
