Does anyone know of a compatibility problem with windows me and usb? I can't get the acs-495 program to find the usb.... anyhow please email me if you know anything because I have no clue.
I'm having trouble with Windows ME and ACS495 USB as well. The Win98 drivers I got from Dell's support site (for Dimension XPS R450) worked fine in Win98. However, under Win ME the USB connection and the popup volume control only become active after I unplug and replug the USB cable (after each boot).
I tried upgrading to the ADA305 driver at the altecmm.com site (which claims to be compatible with ACS 495), but the volume popup doesn't work, the driver often leaves a hanging process, and the uninstall hangs and removes all systray icons.
The old Dell drivers seem to work best, but having to replug the cable each time is annoying. I hope Altec Lansing will step up and support their existing products on newer operating systems.
I posted to the Altec Lansing about the ACS 495 driver problem, and here is part of their response:
"We are in the process of developing AMS software for Win2K and Win ME
at this time and hope to have the new software up soon. Keep an eye on out
web page http://www.altecmm.com for the update. In the meantime your
speakers should be fully functional in manual mode. This operation is
detailed in the user guide that came with the system and is also available
in "pdf" format online at our web site <A HREF="http://www.altecmm.com"" TARGET=_blank>http://www.altecmm.com"</A>
