Let me tell everyone about a phone call I had with Opti Co. First of all, I called long distance. My goal was to find a Win2k driver for a sound CARD they mfg'd. Note I said they mfg'd the card. This is TRUE the card name is the Opti Sound Deluxe 64. It came prepackaged from a ABS or NuTrend system. So the instruction manual says, right there beside the trademarked opti logo,to call opti support or visit their website for drivers. Well I called the support number and let the rep know I had a card mfg'd by them from a few years back and I need a bit of support. So she says that, yes, they made the card, but no longer produce them and have since sold the sound chipset company so she transfers me to JOHN VINEYARD. Keep this name handy. Mr Vineyard screamed at me on the phone when I tried to let him know that the rep, who later turned out to be the receptionist, had just told me some conflicting information. You see, Mr Vineyard tried to tell me that windrivers.com AND driverguide.com had incorrect information, that OPTI does not hava a general public support number and that someone must have illegally produced my sound card because opti sure didnt. He also accused driverguide.com of posting information about Opti falsely, he said in a nutshell that driverguide.com was fraudulently displaying support numbers for Opti. All of this time Mr Vineyard was yelling at me and interrupting me. All I was transferred to him for was so I could possibly get a copy of the prototype driver for my card or the chips on it, so that I could develop a new one that works with my hardware and OS configuration. So after his harrangue I asked his name. He asked me mine, I told him it was not important, but Mr Vineyard insisted he wanted my name. Get this next part, I asked him to transfer me to his supervisor, he told me that his boss is the Opti Board of Directors and no one else. He answers to no one and apparently has the run of the place. I was extremely appalled that I was treated this way when; as a soft spoken person, I rareley raise my voice. I am a computer geek, I dont have any beef with anyone but JOHN VINEYARD chose to give me one of the worst cases of customer support that I have ever experienced. I suggest anyone even considering purchasing a computer with Opti chips in it beware. There is no mfg support on anything Opti produces. They just do not do it. My suggestion and advise is to aviod Opti all together, just dont buy their chips. They are a real pain anyway. Thanks for reading this and I hope this information helps someone else avoid a potential aurally painful experience. JP
