Sony CDU311 driver installation won't work

Bought a never used Sony CDU311 cd-rom, and put in a GW P5 Pentium 120Mhz just to play around with...formatted HD, installed Dos 6.2, then installed cd-rom drivers..Install won't work properly...doesn't change autoexec.bat or config.sys, manually adding lines to these files still won't work...I want access to my cd in dos because that's all that is on this machine...any ideas?
This install program "STINKS"!!!!
