I have an old Sony CDU33a-01 (2x cd-rom) that came with an AST computer. It is not an IDE drive, but rather it has a cable (34 pin) that connects to a spectrum sound card. I found the (dos) drivers for the cd-rom, but the PC still doesn't recognize the drive. The pc is an IBM P166 running Win95. Is there something more (obviously) that I need to do to get this drive running??

Try these URLs. The ATAPI standard for CD-ROM drives was not fully established until around the 4x speed CD-ROM drive. And as in the case with yours, most pre-4x units had their own proprietary interface card. And for many of these (because they are propietary) Windows 95+ support is not that common.
