CDRom Problems 4 burned out in past 7 months

i am using a asus k7m motherboard and athlon 500 chip,, i am wondering if my problem is in the motherboard, power supply or are these cdrom manufacturers building crappy equipment. i have had 2 iomagic's an Aopen and a Delta drive in this computer in the past 7 months, all of them have burned out. My son has the same motherboard and chip but using a HP cd burner , he has had no problems at all
my board is just past warranty a little over a year old. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Who you took advice from dude? Those CDROM brands you mentioned are the WORST possible brands known.
The fastest and most reliable drives are the ASUS 50x max or the Kenwood 72x TrueX.
