I am trying to install driver version 5.12.1.636. Whenever it gets towards the end of installation, it gives me a blue screen, and it restarts my computer. My computer restarts too quick to see what it says. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated because I need my sound card to work,

I am guessing this is xp or 2000
Turn off auto restart to get the full error
Right click my computer, properties, advanced tab, startup and recovery button, uncheck automatically restart on error, apply and ok
Then post the FULL error message please.
It would be very helpful to know your system specs as well.

Its the biostar m7sua motherboard. I used both the drivers from the CD that came with it, and the ones on the website. They both do the same thing. And yes, I'm sure its the 8738. It is not integrated with the motherboard, I bought it seprerate, it is a pci card.

OK, have you turned off the onboard sound? There are usually two places in which the sound must be turned off in bios, sometimes a jumper on the motherboard.
Can I ask why you bought a cmedia card when you have onboard sound?

Yes, I have already disabled the onboard sound in the BIOS and taken off the jumpers for the onboard sound. I bought this new sound card because the onboard sound did not work.

Have you been to www.sis.com.tw for updated motherboard drivers? or here at biostar? http://www.biostar-usa.com/mbdownloads.asp?model=M7SUA

OK, have you played the slot shuffle?
Have you removed all traces of the sound drivers in safe mode and any sound applications?

Well, I installed the drivers in safe mode, and this works. But, when I start windows normally, at bootup, it shows me the bluescreen and I had to reinstall windows. (this is ok though because the computer is new.). Are there any suggestions how to fix this?

Was the bluescreen different? What was the message this time?
Sounds like you have something competing. The only way to fix this is to uninstall all your cards and onboard stuff in safe mode. Turn off all the onboard stuff in bios, remove any other pci cards - then ONLY install the sound, does it blue screen then?

The bluescreen says the exact same thing as the other bluescreen. Yes, I have uninstalled EVERY trace of sound devices in safe mode, and turned off all the onboard stuff in the BIOS. and it still does not work.

Time to call in the cavalry - please post the problem in this windrivers forum (http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/wd/forumdisplay.php?f=20) It will get alot more exposure and hopefully better answers
When you post there, refer to this thread and lets see what we can do. You will have to log out of this forum, to be able to login to the otherone in order to post.

Try downloading the base drivers from http://www.cmedia.com.tw/download/OS_e-cmi8738_index.htm
and see how this works as these are for the chip itself not the card it helped me fix alot of my problems or even take the card back to your vendor and tell them it doesn't work and they should accomodate you if they are any good
