some of the computers on my network have sis6326 video cards.

Recently, i found 1 computer which has a wierd problem. Sometimes, when the machine is rebooted or shutdown, the display switches from 800x600 16 bit , back to 640x480 16 colours. When this happens, i cant set the display back to 800x600. When i try to set the display to 800x600, it reboots and the display is back to 640x480. I have to install a vga adapter, reboot, then reinstall the sis6326, then reboot ..

Problem is , it never happens when i am there troubleshooting the computer. It always happens when i am not there .

It is a windows 98 machine which is quite old running a celeron processor.

Anyone encountered this problem before ?

Yup, means the card or onboard video is dying... when it first boots does it show the sis 6326 video adapter logo?
