Hi:
I just upgraded my Compaq Presario 5410US to WinXP-Pro. XP-Pro has reinstalled the necessary drivers for all except the Audio/Sound which is on-board. I've downloaded the necessary SoftPaqs for the Audio & Intel Chipset which is required. Following instructions, I've tried to install the Intel Chipset first which then tells me that the .INF files are up-to-date and the update is then terminated. When I try to install SP27103 (Audio Drivers), it advises me "Driver Not Found, Reboot your system and run Setup again". I've tried another method of going directly to the motherboard Mfr. to download their drivers w/ the same results.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated...
Tnx in advance,
MikeyB

Go into safe mode, remove all software for the sound in add/remove programs. Go into system and uninstall the sound card and other related devices.
Reboot to normal mode. When the sound is detected, cancel the installation and run the softpaq.

Regarding SafeMode & uninstalling the software...
By going into the Control Panel, then Audio/Sound devices,
there are NO AUDIO DEVICES detected and the sound is on the
mobo. The only software installed is what WinXP Pro put in, which of course there is no sound.
When I follow the instructions from Compaq, I have to FIRST update
the chipset .INF file, which XP-Pro won't let me do....I'm advised that
the .INF file is already up to date, according to XP. When I try the
Audio Drivers, this tells me that the driver is not found, to reboot
and try the setup again. It's a loop game w/ their software. I want
to avoid installing a separate sound card unless absolutely necessary.

If this is onboard sound, is it enabled in bios setup?
Most compaqs you wait for the cursor to flash on the top right of the compaq logo screen and press f10. You have about a 3 second window to do that.

Yep...that did it...had to check the BIOS settings and that was the only item that was disabled...I should've thought of that in the 1st place w/ it being on-board.
A Thousand Gratitudes to you !!!!
