Compaq Notebook LTE5300

I am desparate to find a file for my IBM 20X external cdrom to suit a Compaq LTE 5300 laptop. I cannot install Win 98 without it as I have no cd drive installed. Any ideas? :( [FONT=Arial]

What model number ibm cdrom?Thanks for your reply NooNoo,it is a 20X Max Portable CD-ROM Drive and I wish to connect using a pcmcia IDE PC Card. I have reformatted the hard drive and cannot reinstall Win 98 as it is on cd and I cannot use the cdrom drive. Any ideas?

ok you are going to need a few bits and pieces

Socket services for dos,
The pcmcia drivers for dos
and possibly a windows 98 bootdiskette if the pcmcia card cannot boot from cd...

the socket services may be in the supplemental Programs download (http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/LTE/us/locate/1_850.html)

You may find this quicker: buy a an ide to laptop hard drive adapter (very cheap) and use it in a desktop pc, transfer the cab files in the win98 directory from the win98 cd to the laptop hard drive.
