Radeon owners we need to let ATI know that their drivers just plain suck under win2k. As a gamer I thought of upgrading my video card to the radeon would really help me in games like Unreal Tournament (v4.36 latest). The only reward that I got from was a mere 38 fps (avg) at 800X600 resolution. This is after I downloaded all the latest drivers for the card, motherboard, cpu. I even got directX v.8b and flash the bios to the latest revision. The sad part is that this is on a AMD T-1000 machine with 384MB of ram with Asus a7v motherboard. I did expect a minumn of 70 fps from this kind of setup. My old systme with a k500 with a ATI 128 could reach 60 to 70 fps under win98. Anybody got any helpful inputs would be greatly appreciated.

In case you didn't notice...There is a new special purpose driver dated 4/24 which you can download here (http://driver.ati.com/drivers/w2k-753-010409x.exe).

Also, check here (http://www.rage3d.com/) for tweaking tools and additional help with Radeon boards.

Thanks You have answered my prayer. That is a very good site that I never discover. I'll post my results once I get everything updated.

I figure out what is holding my system back. I forgot I had the Radeon Tweaker installed on my system and the option Full Scene Anti-Aliasing was enabled at 2 times sampling ( Which don't really help in UT ).
After disabling that feature, retweaking with the software and over clocking the video card to 190 I was able to hit an average of 60 to 65 fps. The game never droped lower than 40 fps even during intensive scens. It also never exceeded 75 fps no matter how I tweak it at those settings.

Here are my game settings tuned for optimal performance with max # of bots:

1024 X 768 Res
Medium Textures
16 bit color
No decals or TLC
Low Sound quality
16 bots

The surprising thing is that this result comes off a Win2k machine. I'm going to try this thing out later on a Win98 machine to see how much farther I can go.

One last thing I also tune up my hardware resources so that my hard drive controlloers, sound card, nic, and video card were on different irqs and had all the bios shadowed. If anyone as anymore tips please post them. Thanks :p

Sounds like you've done a good job. Good luck. Thanks for the update.

I was going to say until I read that you had solved the problem, that the Radeon performs better under 2K than it does under 9x!!!! Jeez, my 32Mb SDR outperforms colleagues GeForce2 GTS & Ultra cards on identical systems!!!!!
