Hi I'm a bit confused. I've got a presario700 which won't boot. The chaps down in my IT dept say it's because there's no battery inside, even if it's connected to the mains. Just spoke to the person who the laptop belongs to and he says he never took the battery out and as far as he's aware it never had one in. Who's right? Do I need a battery if I've got a power supply?

Lots of good links to help you troubleshoot your problem.
I would think that it should work even without the battery but check out those links above.
Is the charger still putting out good voltage? Maybe it has gone bad.

cheers for the reply, the power supply is new, and is powering the laptop as the power led is lit (green) and when you press on the power on led lights up

I have a friend who bought a computer and it came with no cd-rom drive inside. The cd-rom drive came later in a seperate box. I don't know why some computer companies make these mistakes. You might be able to send it back if it is new.
