i am unable to get my DSL modem to work in my USB ports..tech says i need a upgrade for my USB ports on my M7MKA VIA chipset..

This is the m/b problem. If possible, you can send this back to your m/b vendor for USB update.

It was a long time ago... but the first thing to be done is enabling LEGACY USB on BIOS, allowing the system to load the drivers from the starting up. If you did that and is still in trouble, sure is a mobo defect.
