I have a Compaq presario 2232 which I bought off my daughter. The sound will not work although it used to when she had it. She had problems initially, but fixed them and can't remember how. The pc thinks it has a Cyrix Xpress Audio card but never seems to load the right drivers. We have tried everything (downloading new drivers, looking at settings) but can't seem to find the right one. Audio cd will play but there is no sound and there is no sound on AOL or anything.

In volume Control are all devices unchecked for muted.

Hi Joyce....i have a compaq 7899 & i also lost all sound. I had no icon for the volune & therefor couldnt alter it.
The good news is that i managed to fix the problem & have sound again, the bad news is that i had to reinstall Windows. It didnt take long as i just installed it ontop of my origional Windows.
Not sure if this is any help but good luck anyway.
