My connection speed is half of what i should get

Please help me, I have a presario 4540 with a 56k modem from compaq. I have tried everything going to differnt houses trying their phone lines, still only 28.8 speed.
My friend brogught his comp. over different modem and he connected at 49. Can you please Email me when you find something out? Ive searched net can never find any answers. thankyou

has your ISP recently changed to V90???

If they have it is possible that your modem isn't fully V90 compliant and that is what is causing the reduced connection.

Contact your ISP & see if they have changed over.
