Thumbs down SM56 Problems

I have an SM56 Voice modem installed but I'm haver problems with frequent disconnections. I've tried the latest drivers without success. I'm running W98 with IE5 loads of RAM and an AMD K6/2 400. Anyone any ideas?

I have the same problem. The max connection I can get is 38.8 bps. On previous modems, with same line, same isp I could connect at 50.6 bps

I have found that rebooting and then connecting will allow the connetion to maintain itself for at most 1.5 hours. Once it disconnects, I need to reboot the machine and reconnect. If I don't reboot, all attempts to reconnect fail.

On other forms I've read that if you can get the modem to connect at all, your lucky. I guess there is a reason it only costs $15 huh?

I'm have an AMD 400 too.

Thumbs down

I`m also running an amd-450 encountering same problems.I disagree with having to reboot the computer. It`s just as Tiller mentioned, you get what you paid for! I have found out that this modem takes power from your cpu, thus the more open programs your running the more frequent the interruptions are. I have no problems connecting at 50.666, its just keeping the connection alive. I`m going with an external modem shortly. Hopefully then I will not encounter the same problems.
