Indeed. I upgraded my DeLL system to Windows 2000; I would hope that I would be able to find an updated driver ... since the system now supports Windows 2K, the components should as well.
Please let me know if anyone finds anything out. UrbanJay@aol.com J. Zerr |

I've upgraded my Dell to Win2K and I've been waiting for Altec Lansing (AL) to post drivers for my ACS495 speakers too. I emailed AL a few months ago and the response was that they were working on it. If anyone gets the drivers, please let me know. If I get them, I'll certainly post a message here. I love the speakers and don't want to have to buy new ones simply because AL won't supply drivers. If I do need to buy new speakers, you can bet they won't be from AL!!

I'm having the same problem. It's ridiculous that they haven't supplied drivers yet for the speakers.

I received the following e-mail from Altec Lansing (looks like we are out of luck as far as USB control):
Thank you for contacting Altec Lansing Technical Support: At the current time we do not have an AMS package compatible with Windows 2000 and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The AMS software was written before the release of Windows 2000 and we have been concentrating on the development of new speakers with more advanced technical features. Unfortunately, we do not have plans to develop AMS software compatible with Windows 2000. The same functionality of the AMS software can be achieved by using the buttons on the speakers and the volume control software that comes with your Windows system. Please disconnect your speaker set from the USB port and make sure you have connected the audio cable from the subwoofer to the audio out port of your computer. If you double click the speaker icon from the system tray, that will open this software up. You can download the manual from our web site at www.altecmm.com -> product line. With the USB connector removed or the computer turned off, STEREO or PRO LOGIC modes can be selected by depressing and holding the center control down for approximately three seconds. The mode selected will be indicated by the color of the LED on the front right speaker. When the light glows yellow it is in the STEREO mode. When the light is green it is in the PRO LOGIC mode. For enhanced technical support, please call us at: 1-800-258-3288, followed by option 3. Support is available 24 hours per day, Monday thru Friday. Technical support is closed on weekends and holidays. Sincerely, Altec Lansing Technical Support |

I appreciate finding out that I can get at least something like the pro-logic mode, if without the GUI. Been skimming around for years trying to get back something more than stereo. Thanks.

I have a working prototype ACS495 driver for Windows XP. I am still testing, but when I am done I will be sharing it with those that are interested. I don't know for sure but I am guessing that it will work with W2K also.

Ok I may be jumping the gun but I have tested the install and functionality on 2 seperate PC's and had absolutely no problems or issues.
Here is the url to download the USB driver and software install I have created for the Altec Lansing ACS-495 (For Windows XP) http://www.manwells.com/AMS24XP/AMS24XP.exe It is a winzip self extracting archive. The install instructions assume you run the exe and click the extract button with the default location. The archive will then extract to C:\temp\AMS24 Best wishes! |

Thanks Rman23
I had almost given up on these nice speakers. Your drivers have got them rocking to your music. Couldn't mess up your step-by- step instructions. Great job. |
