9680 drivers and upgrading to DirectX 6

I have a Trident 9680 expanded to 2 Megs in a clone system with a K-6 200 using Win95 4.00.950 B as OS.
All was well till I upgraded to DirectX 6 so I could play Sid Meiers' Alpha Centauri demo.
After that I kept getting: "beta directdraw expired please update".
I have the following drivers for the Trident:
Trident 9685/9682/9385/9382/9385-1 PCI (v6.00.20) (7-14-1997)&
Trident 9660/968X/938x Linear Accelerated for PCI (v4.02.12) (2-14-1997)

The DirectDraw shows version 4.006.02.0407

Any ideas????? Help!!!! I can't play the bloody demo!!!
