Compaq 4800

This past weekend I loaded a few games on a friends system. When we tried to play the games, the system notified us that the video drivers were not utilizing DirectX 6. So,I loaded DirectX 6.0 on his system, from a tools utility disk I have.
Every since then, his video has gone bonkers. I tried to reset these drivers to their original settings, but it ain't happening. I need video drivers for this system.
He recently purchased the system from a friend of his and does not have the original Compaq discs. Compaq says they will mail restore discs to him; but, he'll have to erase nearly everything in his memory, and reinstall most of the stuff on his system all over again.

Can anybody help???????????????????
(I need the DirectX video drivers for this version of Compaq computers.)
