Question Presario 4860 & Windows 2000

I'm thinking about blocking off a hole day to tackle this upgrade (currently on Win98SE). Has anyone successfully migrated to Win2000 on a 4860? Success or failure, I'd like to know what to expect besides the modem, I know that wont work, (In my opinion it never really worked since i bought the system) What about the BIOS? Will Win2000 just hose me up? Have there been any issues with ACPI? Please HELP!

Thumbs up

I did it! Its working great, no fear to the next person who installs win2000 on a presario 4860. One word of advice, toss out your compaq modem get an NT/Win2000 compatible one.

Question

Did you do a clean install of Windows 2000 or an upgrade? Are there any problems with your bios? Any info would be appreciated.

I did a clean (Full) install along side windows 98 SE. (Dual Boot) Bios seems to be working fine. (Don't choose the upgrade from 98) Do a new Install along side it.

It does not lock up at any point. I'm so relieved that this works now i can finally work in peace. The reason I've kept 98 is for gaming.

Cool

Thanks for the info. That is what I was thinking of trying. I wanted to keep 98 for the same reason. Do you have a Compaq printer? If so, are you using a Compaq driver or a generic one? Thanks again.

Cool

No compaq printers for me, I'm using a panasonic laser printer KX-P4410 that I bought (no Joke) like 8 years ago and its on the Windows 2000 supported list.

Exclamation

Last night I added a 128MB SDRAM DIMM (had 64MB Already) to my Presario 4860 w/Windows 2000 and I received a PAGE FAULT ERROR (Semi blue Screen). It looks like the antivirus software that I had tried to remove a few days earlier had told Windows 2000 that I only had 64MB and any ram changes were not authorized. I wound up re-installing Windows 2000 and the system is behaving normally. Except its much much faster now. Windows 2000 is the best OS to date on my 4860.
