Just a suggestion if you are curious about the Y2K status of your Compaq Hardware.
Do not go by the Y2K Compliance Table alone at the Compaq site. I looked up the status on an Armada 7770 laptop and it stated the hardware was built compliant. However, when I went to the SoftPaq section there was a System ROM update that corrected a Y2K issue in the BIOS. When I called Compaq to inquire, I got a song and dance about how there are 2 different departments and the Y2K department updates their web info every 2 weeks where the Tech Support area updates more freqently. I pointed out to the rep that the 7770 in May had been listed as requiring the BIOS update to be Y2K compliant, but had been changed recently to Compliant. In addition, the current BIOS update was posted in August. I also mentioned that the same BIOS update is posted for a few other models of the Armada laptop, and their Y2K Status is still listed as requiring the BIOS upgrade to be compliant. The rep still gave the me the run around and had no intention of even dropping a note to the Y2K department (which you can't reach via their feedback page due to an endless messaging loop). So when you are looking for various drivers for your hardware, you might want to take a quick look at the updates listed in the ROMPaq as you might find there is a BIOS update for Y2K compliance. |

Change the date on your system to DEC, 31 at 23:59pm, and if it doesn't explode, it works.
I'll bet a large sum on money it won't explode, and in fact will work fine. BUT if you are using a software package more than 1 year old (old Peachtree or DACEASY) you will want to get updates to it.
