Unhappy DVD driver for NT / M700

I have the M700 laptop but can't get the DVD to work with NT. I have heard that there is a shareware DVD driver that would get this to work. If anyone knows how this is done please let me know

NT does not support DVD.
NT does not realise that a device such as a DVD exists.
It sees it as a CD-ROM.
Programs on NT do not access the Hardware directly, they have to go through the O/S.
So I really don't think that it is possible.

Win2000 is the way to go, as the DVD player sucks big time under 95
