Exclamation 56K Modem Disabled in Win2k

I recently install Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional on my Compaq computer. After the installation, I noticed that my Internet shortcut had a red "X" on it. It turned out that my modem was disabled. It says something about the Firmware not providing the required resources for the modem. I uninstalled the modem, then reinstalled it using "Add Hardware". The modem was disabled right after I installed it. If anyone can help me out, I would appreciate it. Thanks.
