[Resolved] Having trouble with a driver for SIS 7012 integrated sound on SIS 741 mobo
I performed a clean install of Windows XP Home on a "Northgate" (Lan Plus) system built on an SIS 741 motherboard. This company is out of business, so I can't get drivers from the OEM. I went to SIS & used their driver utility & it identified the Northbridge as 741, Southbridge as 963/963L with SIS Mirage Graphics.
It ID'd the Audio as SIS 7012 Audio Controller. I downloaded & extracted the driver & ran setup & it throws an error early in the installation. I've downloaded & extracted the driver twice, in case the initial download was corrupt.
The integrated SIS 900-based PCI Fast Ethernet is bad, so I installed a PCI NIC that is working fine. I guess it's possible that the integrated sound has failed along with the NIC. I didn't check to see if the sound was working before the clean install of XP :(
I ran Belarc Advisor before the clean install & Belarc identifies the audio as Realtek AC'97.
Any sage advice gurus?
~Dave
Well, I should have waited to post I guess :)
I downloaded the Realtek AC'97 driver from Realtek.com & that worked fine.
Issue is resolved.
