CD ROM Will Not Play or Recognize Music CDs
I am working on a friend’s computer and after reinstalling sound, display, and other drivers I am unable to get music/audio CDs to play. All other CDs will function in the CD ROM except for music CDs. While looking in Device Manger, I can see an explanation point next to “wave device for voice modem” but my understanding is that this is for Caller ID and voice communication.
The computer is a Gateway 2000 with modem, video, and sound all onboard. “Ensoniq Audio PCI” and “Ensoniq Audio PCI Legacy Device” is shown as the audio controller{s} in Device Manager. I was unable to play CDs with the standard Windows 98 CD Player nor was I able to play CDs after installing the Deluxe CD Player from the Windows 98 Plus Pak. TweakUI is installed and the option to “play music CDs automatically” is selected. The system DOES have sound-it just will not recognize that there is a CD loaded when running the CD player as it continually asks for me to insert a CD.
Your help would be appreciated,
Jeff
