RIVA TNT2 M64 PCI
Hello, I just bought a new videocart for my computer, a RIVA TNT2 M64 with 32 Megs, PCI-version. But when i install the cart, the computer crashes when he tries to start windows. After the windows splash screen, the screen becomes black and the computer stops. It still does reacts on ctrl+alt+del.
I tried a lot of things (new drivers, manually remove old one and install new) but they all don't work. My system specs:
AMD K6-233
Ability Mainboard with TX-pro chipset (4 PCI, 3 ISA no AGP)
17 inch monitor (brand: Target)
If anyone has a suggestion how to handle this problem, feel free to awnser! https://forums.windrivers.com/

Put the old card back in the computer, and see if you can get it to work. Then switch the video driver to plain-old VGA. Then shut down the computer, put in the new card, and start Windows. NOW install the new driver and you should be set.

Thank you for that one, but i tried it already and.... it doesn't make any sense.

First try a different PCI slot. Try all of them one at a time until you have a post screen. Now there are some incompatabilities with Ali4 chipset motherboards and Nvidia graphics cards, mainly the way IRQ routing table is setup in the bios. Try changing to the microsoft routing table for PCI steering instead of using the bios. Go to the control panel, system, hardware, device manager, system devices, pci bus, check mark use microsoft routing table and uncheck the rest and shut down. Install your new video card and have all drivers ready as you may need them when you turn the system back on and boot to windows. This is the only way I could get a TNT PCI card to run reliably on an old Ali.

Thanks Silverman, but this also doesn't work. Maybe some more information can help you:
- After i installed the new card, windows does start, only in 16 color mode (low-res) and then it searches for new hardware, a PCI vga compatible adapter. When i don't install that one, the computer crashes. When i do install the adapter, it goes on and starts in that 16 color mode.
- When i try to install the new video driver then, windows says that it maybe the wrong driver for the display adapter and that it probably won't work. Then i start the computer again; again windows starts in the 16 color mode. I can change resolution now and windows does use the TNT2 adapter, but when i restart now, windows doesn't start up.
Maybe you've got a splending idea now, how to solve this problem. https://forums.windrivers.com/

Who is the manufacturer of the vid card? Perhaps a new bios is posted for the video card?

Ok, give this a try. It has worked for me in the past. Boot into safe mode and in the device manager remove any and all video cards. Also, remove all monitors and reboot.

Hello everyone
I too am trying to get a card to work.
A Visiontek (Nvida TNT2 vanta w/tv out) and I have done all the same things last night and had the same results.
But I just found the VIA 4IN1 drivers for my AZZA board. I have not tried the card yet because I wanted to get more input on what to try first.
1. boot into safemode and remove all video devices
then reboot
2. TURN OFF ANTI-VIRUS software
3. update drivers for motherboard
4. load updated video drivers
I UPDATED MY VIA DRIVERS AND PUT NEW CARD IN.
BOOTED UP PURFACT FIRST TIME.
My COMPUTER IS A FEMALE because it never does what I want it to do.

Some more things...
- I have a motherboard of Sparkle Technoligies. I've downloaded the newest driver from their site, but it still won't work.
- I also removed all other video adapters and monitor adapters but that also has not any influence on that new cart.
I 'm quite sure that it isn't a videocart-driver problem but maybe a hardware problem or a problem with the motherboard.
I bought the cart by a shop on the Web (www.csl-computer.de) and they say that it has to be a problem with the motherboard, in the past they had a lot of that kind of problems, and it was always a motherboard problem (to old bios etc.).
Maybe someone else has a totaly new idea, please write it down here.
