floppy drive in DOS
I have an Alton M571 mb with an AMD K-6/2 processor. It has a SiS 5597 chipset. The problem I have is with the floppy drive. It works fine in windows (95B). But when I boot
it up or access it from DOS it has assorted error messages, sector not found, data error, and general failure. I found that I can sometimes read it if I push in on the disk just right. I have checked BIOS and the A drive is selected and floppy swap is disabled. I have also checked the cables but as I said I can write to and read it from windows.
Does any one have any ideas as to the problem? Thanks

You said that if you pushed the disk in just right it would read. I think at this point I would try a new drive.

I think the reason it reads in windows is because it tries a little longer to access the disk. If you have ever tried to read from the adrive you will notice it runs a while before you get an error message. If you try it in dos you get an error message faster. I agree with the last poster. Try a different drive.

Ya try a new drive, Floppy drives are cheap and the heads on your drive could be out of alignment and the cost of repairing the heads would be more than a new drive
