I formatted the hard drive and installed Win 98. The Creative CD 620 (ide) Cd rom doesnot work. I have down loaded a driver from Creative and I still cannot make it work.I installed the driver from the device manager tab. I suspect I may need to a command line to the Config.sys?? The LPT1 I have unistalled and reinstalled and still in device manager I get the yellow exclamtion point. Any suggestions?
As far as the yellow exclamation mark, does it say you are conflicting with another device? What OS were you running before 98? Did your CD-R work on that OS?
The previous operating system orignally was Win 3.1, then updated to Win 95.
Every thing worked fine.
The yellow exclamations show no conflicts, says to update driver but when updating uses the same driver
Sorry about misunderstanding you. I thought (why I don't know) you had a CD-R, not just a regular CD. If this is a 2x speed cd, then follow this link:

Does the CD get power? What type of system do you have? Processor/speed/ram, etc.
The only drivers that you can download for Cd Rom's are Dos drivers - and those won't help it run in windows (generally). Whenever I've run into a problem like this it is usually only fixed if I install updated IDE drivers and/or update the Bios. A lot of times Windows will load the drivers but they don't work properly. Try downloading the proper IDE drivers and go into device manager/hard disk controllers and click on driver tab and then Update Drivers button and point to the folder where you downloaded the drivers. After the reboot check if the yellow exclamation is gone - if so then shouldn't be any more problem. If still a problem, make sure the bios is updated. https://forums.windrivers.com/Quote:

I have got the LPT1 to work by changing the bios. The cd rom is still giving me trouble.I have installed a new driver from the add new hardware. The cd rom will work some times, but then when I restart the PC the CD rom won't be recognized.When you look at the device manager tab you will see a creative IDE controller but no CD rom. The bios was flashed (upgraded) before the Y2K scare. This is an award bios. Do the bios settings need changed? What specifically would you look for? Also when the CD rom disappears the secondary IDE conroller has yellow exclamation point (Code 10) and the creative ide controller does not.When it boots up right the exclamations dissappear.
if you make a win98 bootdidk and boot off it and select with cd support does the cd-rom work? if yes its configured in bios correctly. I would check and see if the cd and hd are on same controler if so move cd to second controler and set it as primary. Set bios to primay 1 auto 2 none secondary 1 auto 2 none if you have all four on auto this can cause a problem . X
Here are a few tricks :
1. MAke sure you have the latest BIOS !
2. Make Sure CD is NOT a MASTER !!!
connect it as Primary Slave if you can !
(creative CD's are known to do this **** !)
3. Install the latest Bridge fix for your motherboard :
Intel chipset (439TX,440LX, 440BX, 810,820,815..)- download and install
ftp://download.intel.com/design/software/drivers/platform/3557/inf_utlity/infinst_enu.zip
for VIA Chipset (KT133, Kx133, Apollo 694etc ..) download and install:

for ALI chipset (e.g. aladdin V) go to http://www.ali.com.tw/eng/support/drvw98.htm
and get the latest drivers.
For SIS Chipset:
go and download latest drivers from :

I'm sure that the problem is the need for updated IDE drivers. I've seen this problem tons of times and 99% of the time it was a problem with the IDE drivers. The other 1% needed a firmware update for the CD-rom. https://forums.windrivers.com/Quote:

I get this sometimes too...boot up, and there's no cd's (I ran with 3, now I've got 2, a cdrw, and a dvd.) also, there's an error in the secondary ide driver. I just reboot, and everything's hunky dorey again.
