win98 setup
Remember the early versions (or possibly all)
of win95 would let you reinstall corrupt files or reinstall the entire os? Is there a way to do that with win98?In other words can you run setup so it doesn't detect an os?
(Thanks to qsecofr and jay015 for for your help)

found the page at ms kb with all the switches for setup....thanks anyway!

Would you mind sharing the link with us because I am also needing a list of those switches.

Heres two things to try
to display switches for any executable program in DOS type the following:
setup/?
this will show you all the switches available for that program.
If you get an error message when u try to run setup that an operating system is already installed...please obtain the upgrade... heres a trick...(But you have to have the windows setup files installed on the hard drive so you can run setup from dos)first copy the full version setup files to windows\options\cabs directory(or wherever you want)
boot to DOS prompt and type the following cd\windows <enter>
ren win.com win.old <enter>
then swithch to the directory that the setup files are located
cd options\cabs <enter>
setup <enter>
you wont get prompted for the upgrade anymore and windows will rewrite the win.com file.
IMPORTANT If you try to restart after renaming the win.com file, windows will not boot. You will get a message that win.com is missing. If need be, just undo what you did as follows...
cd\windows
ren win.old win.com
then restart
hope it helps

Thanks for the tips Elacious. Actually Win98 has alot more switches then the 7 your shown with setup /?. Check out the list at the MS KB: win98 setup switches

You can also go into the windows directory and delete win.com, this will allow you to install overtop.

Go to system tools\ system information. Click tools on the tool bar, system file checker. It will give you the option of checking all your system files automatically or replacing any single file.
