I have a strange situation on a network. This computer has Win 98, it can make a dun connection to the ISP, but once you open Internet Explorer it goes nowhere and gives the error that it cannot connect to any pages. So we installed Netscape and it will not give a start page either. If you type an address, nothing. The other PC on the network gets everything ok its just this one. Both units have the same properties in the Network panel so whats up with this?
Question can you ping anything over the internet? Can you type in a number address, 1.1.1.1, instead of a letter address, whatever.com, If so its a win98 problem a reinstall should fix, they talk about @ Microsoft support site. something to do with the DNS

No ping no nothing. So yesterday I removed all network properties and reinstalled DUN and the dial up server. All now works fine. Thanx very much for the help!

What you ended up doing was what I was going to suggest. I had a Win95 machine show the *exact* same symptoms as your machine. DUN would establish a connection, but neither IE or Netscape would bring up any pages. I did the same thing you did - deleted all networking components and DUN. Then I rebooted and reinstalled and everything worked great. :-)

A really simple fix for this problem (maybe easier than deleting all network components) is to use the internet connection wizzard to create a new connection. That thing will fix problems that CANNOT be fixed by removing and reinstalling all the network components. I am not sure how it does it, but it seems to work every time.
Tried that and it didn't work! But thanx anyway.
