I am trying to setup a 2PC workgroup using cross over network cable. I am using an in-built Davicom network card in one of the PC's and a PCI 3com 3c905b-TX card on the other. They both installed properly. But, they couldn't find each other in Network neighbourhood. They both uses same protocols(Netbui, TCP/IP and IPX/SPX) and same services and same workgroup name. They both are 100mbits adapters. I have a Lanlite software which finds the link alright. Can someone help me?
Kill IPX and Netbui - specify IP#s:
192.168.0.X with Subnet of 255.255.255.0

Also do a search of the registry and make sure that autologin is not enabled.
Have you tryed to Map The Hard Drives on eather machines?
Also Is the C: Drive Shared?

Look in the TCP/IP, and the lan card properties sheet to make sure that the cards are configured the same (Autosense doesn't always work, put both on half or full duplex transmission etc.)
Make sure the hub you're using supports 100MBps. Try the cards at 10MBps.
Make sure the netbui properties have LMannounce enabled. Last but not least, give them about a minute to sort themselves out. Windows takes a while to sort even the smallest LAN.
Oh and of course, enable file/printer sharing and make some shares.
Make sure you are using the correct cable. If you are going PC to PC you need a crossover cable, if you are going to a hub you need patch cables
You need a cross network cable to connect machine to machine..

Are you getting lights on the back of the nics ? (or at least the 3 com. The built in davidcom I am assuming is on an alton motherboard and therefore does not have a connect light). If not then something is up with the cabling.
Check your resources on the NICs to be sure there is not a conflict.
Kill ipx and netbui. Manually assign the ip.
Make sure print and file sharing is checked.
Dont use network neighborhood to see of the othercomputer is there. Do a search for computer from the start menu and dont put a name in it. It will search for all machines.
