ICS and unknown host
After installing ICS in my Windows 98SE PC I can't send/receive mail or surf. It is possible to make a internet connection, but pinging to a www address does not work either. All settings are correct. I have several providers, the problem is the same with all. It suggest a DNS problem??
This is quite a problem for me!

You might be able to resolve this by just removing all networking components, rebooting, and reinstalling them.

Ya never know, ya know?

delete the winsock keys and reboot.

I just don't understand stop signs...aren't vehicles made to, well...GO???
-
which filenames and from c:\windows\system?
-
I uninstalled and re-installed my modem, uninstalled and re-installed Dial-up, in the hosts.sam file no entries are present, and using Internet Explorer still gives:
Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer
If possible I don't want to re-install Win98.
Solutions??

Is this the modem set? or the downline set? https://forums.windrivers.com/
-
Yes, I can make an internet connection, but I just can't surf or get my mail. But I can ping to IP addresses, not www.etc names.
-
Ok we still need to know if this is the modem set or not? Also do you have a static ip if so you need your dns servers listed. X https://forums.windrivers.com/

Yes, the modem is set and IP is not static.
Worse: I formatted my c-drive, re-installed win98, reinstalled modem (internal motorola), according to windows modem is properly installed and now get: no dialtone!

Man this is going down hill now. First get modem problem strait. If you use phone dialer does modem work? can it dial a local number? If not start trouble shooting modem change phone cable to modem and verify phone drop is hot. Then get back to us. X
