Irritating GPF in explorer from User.exe

I am running win95 second edition.
I've set the screensaver to run 3d pipes.
I get an intermittant error when exiting the screen saver in the form of a GPF 'explorer caused gpf in module user'.
The system shuts down explorer and systray but leaves any programs running in the forground active and then I can continue using the system with no (appearant) problems. I've scanned for virus and disk problems with none showing.

I've got norton antivirus running on startup, the only other tasks running are MGAqdesk and mgactrl (for matrox g220), Dbserver (a game pad driver), systray, and explorer.

This error isn't preventing me from using the system but it is annoying.

Any ideas?

And another thing. ...

On shutdown since the last GPF I've been getting a blue screen of death during the 'windows is shutting down' screen.
Error in Vserver.vxd, this only happens when shutting down but means I have to supervise shutdown. If I leave the machine it restarts from the blue screen.
Any ideas at all?

Run SFC, and extract the file that gives the error. (vserver.vxd)
Turn off the sound event associated with shut down.
Edit your autoexec and config, and rem the lines that deal with Norton. You don't need a DOS scan on startup, and this is particularily annoying as well as slowing down the system as a TSR.
Reload the drivers for your Matrox.

OK, my own fault for posting an acronym, what is SFC ?

I've stopped the error connected to the screen saver by changing to a non 3D saver.
I've been trawling through the bootlog.txt for that machine and a win98 machine and have a few questions.

If a device fails to initialise on bootup of win 98:-
(ndis2sup.vxd)

how serious is the problem?

The win 95 machine fails to initialise ndis2sup.vxd also but the network seems to function with any protocol......
