Hi
I have just replaced a motherboard and processor following a fan fault. I am unable to run Win95 in normal mode every time the machine is started as I get :-
Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer.
I have the correct bus master driver installed and when the machine is running there doesn't appear to be anything wrong in the device manager.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Wouldn't be an AMDK62 Cpu by any chance..
If it is you'll need to get the patch from the amd website
You did reinstall Win after the new mobo and proc, right? If not, it is probably a conflict between the old mobo/proc drivers and the new settings.

I agree with the last post but there is an easier way than reinstalling windows. You can either start the machine in safe mode and go into device manager and remaove all motherboard drivers or the method I prefer is to go into the registry and delete the enum key. Restart the machine. This will remove all drivers and allow a fresh start without the pain of a reinstall. The enum key is in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
While BadCache is right about deleteing the enum key and reinstalling all hardware, sometimes is takes a clean install to do the trick. Beaware, if the problem is a windows internal driver, deleting the enum key will only make you waste time. Windows will continue usuing the bad driver after reinstall.
