I have two Windows 95 machines that will
not display the final shut down message that
occurs after Windows has closed. The message is somehting like "You may safely shut down your computer now". How do I enable this message to appear? Is the problem related to a device not shutting down properly ? Thank You - Rob
Ocassionally this is due to the exit sound that plays when windows closes, try disabling the exit sound in the windows sound control panel, this may be a quick fix.
Howdy, I have also seen Nortons Anti-virus also cause this problem. I have not seen it with other personaly though. So if you are running some type of Anti-virus program try unistalling it and see if the problem goes away as well.

This is normally as suggested the exit windows sound or a driver not being closed properly. Try removing and reinstalling your drivers.
First, make sure that you have the logos.sys file in your Windows directory. Double-click it and view the bitmap to see that it's the right image and it hasn't been changed or edited.
Sometimes network drivers can cause this as well. Something to do with closing connections. Try removing net card and/or drivers and seeing what happens.
The problem is caused by a program or driver that is running in the background when windows is shutting down. This program/drivers can be video driver, sound driver, mouse drivers ect. If your have office 9X installed Fastfind can also corrupt a driver/program and cause this problem. Start by looking in the task manger and see what is running for programs. One by one uninstall and reinstall these program. Next reinstall the drivers for you video, sound driver that are not using the driver shipped with windows. If this does not clean up the problem you may have to manual remove driver and programs. This is not fun I have spent up to 8 hours stripping windows and reinstalling.
