[RESOLVED] Aztech Modem problem

I have an aztech modem model #mdp3858sp-u installed in my Windows 98 computer. The drivers that come with this modem, include a bat file called purepepr.bat, which is called in autoexec.bat. When ever purepepr.bat loads Win98 will not load. However in Win98, after I've commented our purepepr.bat, my modem will pick up the telephone line, I can hear a dial tone, but the modem will report no dialtone. The contents of purepepr.bat are listed below:
dos4gw c:\windows\aztwrite.exe mdp3858sp - u

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
